Dr. Haben Birhane serves as an Ear, Nose, and Throat surgeon at CURE Zambia, where he works to evaluate and treat pediatric patients with ear, nose, throat, head, and neck pathologies. Dr. Haben began at CURE in July 2023, and he loves going beyond providing physical care and being involved in CURE’s mission to intentionally minister and share the good news with patients and their families.
Dr. Haben, a native of Ethiopia, graduated with his doctorate from Adama Science and Technology University. He completed his specialty training in Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT Surgery) at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College. He also worked at Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital as a General practitioner in the ENT department for about two and half years as an ENT Surgeon/Specialist.
Outside of work, Dr. Haben loves to devote his time to charity work, outreach services, and exercise. He is married to Kidist.
Stephen serves as the hospital’s Financial Controller and is a member of the senior management team. In this role, he oversees the finance department at the hospital. Prior to this role, he served as the Project Manager for CURE Zambia where he managed the ENT cases. Stephen has served the hospital for six years and is trained in finance with a chartered accountant Zambia application-level qualification. He has 13 years of experience in financial and project management and worked for two other organizations in Zambia prior to joining CURE. Stephen considers working for CURE Zambia a blessing and a great opportunity to contribute toward the treatment and care of children with disabilities.
Margaret serves as Director of Prosthetics and Orthotics. In this role, she oversees the setting up and running of prosthetics and orthotics clinics across the CURE network. Day-to-day, this involves supporting and training staff and ensuring every clinic offers the highest possible standard of care. Margaret moved to Zambia from the UK to serve at the hospital in August of 2023.
Margaret has a master’s degree in public health from the University of Edinburgh and a bachelor of science in prosthetics and orthotics from the University of Strathclyde, both in Scotland. She’s worked for nonprofit organizations in the United Kingdom and the Philippines.
She loves that CURE is taking seriously the need for good-quality prosthetics and orthotics services because it has a significant impact on restoring kids’ mobility and independence so they can live life to the fullest. It’s also exciting that they get to hear about Jesus at the same time.
Outside the hospital, Margaret likes to play the viola, the horn, and a little bit of piano. When she’s not making music, you can find her curled up with a good book.
Frida has served as Executive Director at CURE Zambia since August 2020. In this role, she maintains overall accountability for the operational, financial, spiritual, and clinical health of the hospital. Frida holds an master of science in development management from Open University (UK) and a BA in public administration from the University of Zambia. Previously, she has spent much of her career at international NGOs and has worked as the country director for Voluntary Services Overseas, ActionAid, and mothers2mothers.
Frida joined CURE to unapologetically serve the Lord in her daily professional work. She sees her position as a great opportunity to do good works and engage spiritually with the people she serves. Frida and her husband, Jerran Phiri, are blessed with four lovely children, Natasha, Angela, Dumisa, and Chimwemwe. Outside of work, Friday enjoys time with her family, especially during Christmas when everyone gets together.
Dr. Francis serves as a Physician Anesthetist at CURE Zambia. He has a bachelor of science in human biology, a bachelor of medicine and surgery, and a master of medicine in anesthesia and critical care from the University of Zambia School of Medicine.
Dr. Francis is a strong advocate for pain-free surgery. He is thrilled to be at CURE, playing a part in transforming the lives of children made vulnerable by treatable disabilities.
Outside of work, Dr. Francis loves to run, fish, read, and play football. He is also developing his photography skills.
Dr. Francis is married to Ntamanyanga, and they are blessed with two beautiful children, Bukata and Lingo-lache.
Terence Kombe serves as the Spiritual Director at CURE Zambia. In his role, he provides spiritual care to CURE staff, oversees spiritual outreach events in the community, and ensures that proper spiritual patient care emanates from every discipline within the hospital.
Terence has served at CURE Zambia since April 2020.
He graduated from the Theological College of Central Africa and obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology with majors in pastoral care, education, and missions. Previously, he served as a pastor at Brethren in Christ BIC and as a senior pastor at Kingdom Assembly Ministries. In addition to ministry, he worked as a vice principal for a secondary teacher training college as well as a part-time lecturer at the University of Zambia.
Terence likes the fact that his role at CURE consolidates his three majors (pastoral care, education, and missions) and provides the rare privilege of reaching out to children and others beyond the pulpit. He is married with four children (three girls and a boy) and spends time playing soccer, badminton, volleyball, and chess in order to reach out to more people.
Dr. Pumulo Maimbolwa serves as a General Practitioner at CURE Zambia. She has a bachelor of science and a medical degree from the University of Zambia.
Prior to joining the CURE family, Dr. Pumulo worked at Wusakile Mine Hospital and most recently Kanyama Level One Hospital.
Dr. Pumulo is excited to serve CURE in an environment that enables her relationship with God to thrive while being part of the healing process for children with different needs. She enjoys the art of plastic surgery and finds it fulfilling.
When she’s not working, Dr. Pumulo enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and son.
Dr. Maweja serves as the Medical Officer for CURE Zambia. In this role, he works hand in hand with medical consultants to provide high quality medical care to patients. He earned his medical degree from the University Of Lubumbashi in 2004. Afterward, he worked at Gecamines Sud Hospital and Kamolondo General Hospital in Lubumbashi, DRC. In 2015, he moved to Zambia where he has worked in private and government hospitals within the country. He served as a general practitioner at Hilltop Hospital just before joining the team at CURE.
Bridget serves as CURE Zambia’s Human Resource and Administration Manager, where she oversees the hospital’s employment system, compensation system, and performance evaluation system and monitors the hospital’s overall compliance with laws and regulations, among other duties. She enjoys working with CURE to help children made vulnerable by disability while sharing the Word of God.
Bridget has a degree in human resources management from Mansfield University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in human resource management from Eastern and Southern African Management Institute.
Before joining CURE, Bridget served as a Regional Personnel Manager for Shoprite and Hungry Lion, a Business Administrator at Galaunia Holdings, a Financial Administrator at Family Church, a Human Resource Administrator at Studio Architecture, a supervisor at a bank, and a Group Human Resources Manager at AVIC International Project Engineering Company.
Outside of work, Bridget enjoys attending prayer meetings and spending time with her son, Ilanzi, and daughter, Aliza.
Dr. Moyo serves serves the Medical Director at CURE Zambia. Dr. Moyo, who grew up in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, did some of his training at CURE Kenya and has served CURE for 18 years.
Previously, Dr. Moyo worked as the District In-Charge Medical Officer and Medical Director at Drodro Catholic Hospital in the Congo and also the Medical Director of the CEDR Clinic in Bunia/Eastern Congo.
Dr. Moyo graduated from Makerere University in Uganda in M.Med Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery. He obtained his Fellowship in Joint Arthroplasty and also a Fellowship in Orthopedic Oncology at Radbud University in the Netherlands. He holds an advanced diploma in Public Health in Tropical Medicine, Health Projects and Management from the Swiss Tropical Institute in Basel University/Switzerland. He also holds a certificate in Pediatric Rehabilitation Surgeries.
Dr. Moyo was appointed Honorary Lecturer at the University of Zambia in 2010 and is a trustee of Flyspec, Lusaka Orthopedic Research and Education Trust of Zambia.
He is married to Mirielle Misonia Moyo, and they have four children.
Lucy serves as the Nurse Manager at CURE Zambia, where she ensures that each patient care department is up to standard and follows relevant policies and guidelines. She also supervises nursing services across the hospital, maintaining patient safety.
Lucy has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and project planning and management from the University of Zambia, as well as a diploma in nursing from the Lusaka School of Nursing (now Lusaka College of Nursing). Prior to CURE, Lucy worked at University Teaching Hospital and Kamwala Urban Health Centre. She also previously spent six years at CURE Zambia as the Hospital Ward In-Charge Nurse.
Lucy is married to Stainley and has three sons, Stainley, Gift, and Mapalo. When she’s not serving CURE, she enjoys spending time with her children, attending church activities, and reading.
Dr. Shawa, a Zambian, has served as an Orthopedic Surgeon at CURE Zambia since October 2022. Previously, Dr. Shawa worked at Senenga General Hospital, Kitwe Teaching Hospital, and Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital. He also served at various mission hospitals in Zambia under FLYSPEC, providing orthopedic and trauma care. He holds four master’s degrees, the first from the University of Edinburgh in surgical sciences, the second from the University of Zambia in orthopedics and trauma, the third from the University of Lusaka in public health, and the fourth (an MBA) in financial management. He is also a member of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA).
Dr. Shawa enjoys how CURE incorporates God and the Christian faith into caring for patients and works to bring healing to children who heal fast and are still growing.
Outside of work, Dr. Shawa loves spending time with his family. He is married to Chama, and they are blessed with two daughters, Nandi and Chimwemwe.
Dr. Tembo serves as lead Anesthesiologist at CURE Zambia. He has been with CURE since March 2021.
Previously, Dr. Tembo worked at Barrick Gold Lumwana in the Northwestern Province in Zambia as a general manager of Lumwana Town. He joined Barrick Gold Lumwana as a Medical Superintendent and progressed as a Health and Safety Manager. He also worked as a Consultant Anesthesiologist at the Wusakile Mine Hospital in Kitwe.
Dr. Tembo graduated from the University of Zambia School of Medicine and received his postgraduate diploma in Anesthesia from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He received his training fellowships from the World Federation of Anesthesiologists and was the visiting fellow in cardiothoracic anesthesia at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, USA, and the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cate Town, South Africa.
Dr. Tembo is married to Mulenga and has three children and six grandchildren.
Kenneth serves as CURE Zambia’s Facility Manager. He oversees all preventative and corrective maintenance at the hospital, ensuring all equipment and buildings function safely for patients, caregivers, and staff.
He has a bachelor of science in electrical and electronic engineering from the Information and Communications University in Zambia, as well as several certificates in facilities management and electrical-related fields from various trade schools.
Before joining CURE, Kenneth worked as a Maintenance Manager at Zambeef Products, an Electrical and Electronics Technician at Roland Imperial Tobacco, a Maintenance Supervisor at Skretting Zambia, a Maintenance Electrician at NRB Pharma, and a Maintenance Electrical Artisan at Konkola Copper Mines.
Kenneth is married to Chisomo, and they have three children, Jotham, Joanna, and Joel. Outside his work with CURE, Kenneth enjoys spending time with his family, visiting new places, and playing pool, football, volleyball, and piano.
Dr. Sindula Tshoma serves as the Anesthesia Medical Officer at the CURE Children’s Hospital of Zambia. In his role, Dr. Tshoma provides pre-operative assessment, anesthesia, and post-operative care to children and adults. Dr. Tshoma holds a degree in medicine from the University of Kinshasa and was trained in anesthesia from the same university. He has over 18 years of experience in anesthesia administration.
He moved to Zambia in 2003 and joined the country’s largest university teaching hospital, where he worked in anesthesia for five years. In 2008, he joined CURE Zambia as an Anesthesia Medical Officer. In addition, he is an instructor for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and over the years, he has contributed to the training of coworkers and people outside the hospital in (PALS).
Dr. Workman is a board-certified plastic surgeon with over ten years of surgical experience in pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery and served for four years as a director of the ACPA-approved cleft team at Children’s Rehabilitative Services in Phoenix, AZ. She has been involved in dozens of research publications and presentations. Her specialties include congenital or acquired facial deformities, cleft lip and palate, congenital hand malformations, congenital or developmental breast deformities, scars, and other lesions.
Dr. Workman has a combined bachelor’s and medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Medical University. She completed an integrated general surgery/plastic surgery residency at Oklahoma University Health Science Center and a Pediatric Plastic Surgery fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital through Ohio State University Medical Center.
Dr. Workman sold her private practice, East Valley Pediatric Plastic Surgery, PLC, in 2022 to join the medical team at CURE Zambia where she is building the first pediatric plastics program in the country.
She loves working for CURE, where she can unite her passion for serving God, her desire for excellence in surgical care, and her talents for building relationships with people. She is also excited to build consistent multidisciplinary cleft care that families can rely on consistently. She is married to David, her husband of 20 years, and they have four children; Jack, Charlie, Ozzy, and Eve.
Ireen serves as a Nurse Matron at CURE Zambia. In this role, she provides overall supervision of surgical operations and manages operating room staff. Ireen has a diploma in registered nursing and theater nursing, which she obtained in Zambia. She also has a diploma in ophthalmic nursing from her studies in South Africa. Additionally, Ireen has a bachelor of science degree in nursing and a masters of public health, both of which she obtained in the United Kingdom. Ireen has worked in government and non-governmental organizations and has vast experience in healthcare. In the course of her career, she has had the privilege of working both in rural and urban settings.
Ireen feels that CURE is her best fit enabling her to complete her work while serving God. She is married with two children.
